Something in the Air

After coming back from New York (with temperatures at 34 degrees celsius the week I was leaving!) I have to admit I was slightly excited to be out of summer clothes and ready to cosy up in nice knitted jumpers, scarves, and longer lengths. A month later, on the last day of September, I’m starting to plan my Autumn looks and I’m still as excited! I think Autumn is definitely my favourite time of year, I’m really starting to feel the change of seasons this week so I thought there was no better time to do an inspiration post. The looks above are part of my Autumn/Winter moodboard. Every season I compile a board (sometimes physical, sometimes on Pinterest) of all the looks/colours/trends that I feel drawn to for the months ahead. I find it helps me to plan not only my daily wardrobe, and gives inspiration on dull days that lack outfit creativity, but it also helps me to keep my sights set straight when shopping and tends to alleviate impulse purchases.

First up is Courtney Trop of Always Judging who pulls her autumn look together with a blanket scarf, the perfect transitional piece for those days when it’s too warm for a heavy coat but too cold to go out un-layered. My scarf of choice is my Acne lambswool grey scarf that I got last winter, but there are lots of variations on the high street if you’re not willing to fork out for the real deal. Check Topshop or Asos for some nice, student-purse friendly finds.

Last winter I don’t know how many days I spent trawling the internet for the perfect knitted jumper dress (that was within budget) but it seems I am still on the hunt. Asos White did have the perfect one but it sold out before I could snap it up. My ideal has to be a thick enough fabric to keep me warm, have that chunky knitted look, have a slouchy fit, and fall somewhere around my knees. Oh, and preferably dark grey but I’m not picky ;) If anyone has some suggestions throw them at me! Until then, I’ll damn myself daily for not being quick enough to nab that Asos White jumper dress of dreams.

When you think of Autumn you don’t exactly think of prints, but an easy way to introduce them into you’re A/W wardrobe is by wearing them in muted colours. Forget the nautical tops of seasons past, this season stripes are oh so reminiscent of the seventies, a decade which is never out of fashion it seems. I recently picked up this striped midi-skirt in Topshop that has Ali Macgraw written all over it. I plan on wearing it with a cream chunky ribbed jumper and my new leather sock boots for the next month, and pairing it over my knee high boots when the weather gets colder.
